Dog Details

Hi! I’m Monkey, and it’s fitting because I like to Monkey around. I’m 45(and growing,) pounds of pure love. Playing with my foster sister is my favorite activity, so I’ll need another playful dog in my forever home.  A companion that’s fine with my intense playing style and who will join in on the fun would be best. I was found as a stray and little is known about my past. I am so grateful to be in rescue, but it’s all new to me so I’m figuring out how to be a dog. I’m a sweet boy who loves with my whole heart and I can’t help but show you how much love I have to give. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I don’t know my own strength and jump up often(I’m still learning and just need some obedience training,) so a home without small kids would be best. I also haven’t been on a leash before so I pull very hard and don’t potty on a leash and will need a fenced in yard. Just like a monkey I can jump high, so a 6 foot fence would be best or close supervision in the yard is a must. One thing I have mastered is potty training! I’m a good boy and will let you know when I have to go out. I have so much love to give, just need some training to turn into a perfect boy. If you and your playful pup are looking for a diamond in the rough, who is a professional snuggler, I could be the perfect addition to your home. 

Shar Pei’s are a very cute, but very medically challenged breed. Someone familiar with the breed is preferred, but if not you will need to do research on the breed to be informed on potential health issues. Monkey will require consistent vet visits, and maintenance to keep him healthy.

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
